Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Richland Memorial Hospital offers outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation services for individuals living with breathing difficulties.

Pulmonary Rehab at Richland Memorial Hospital is designed to help people become more educated about their breathing conditions and to provide a safe, structured exercise program for gaining strength and independence.

Education includes information about medications, smoking cessation, life style choices, breathing exercises, oxygen use, diet/nutrition and strategies for managing breathing difficulties.

Exercise during Pulmonary Rehab is monitored by trained professionals, who watch the individual’s heart rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure and other symptoms to make certain they are not over exerting themselves.

Some of the goals patients may achieve during Pulmonary Rehab include:

Ø   Helping them return to a more productive and active lifestyle.

Ø  Increasing exercise tolerance and decreasing symptoms related to activity, such as fatigue and shortness of breath.

Ø  Increasing independence and ability to perform activities of daily living.

Ø  Helping them feel more in-control of their lives.

Ø  Reducing the number of hospitalizations needed for breathing difficulties and decreasing length of stay for hospitalizations.

Ø  Decreasing symptoms and helping them manage anxiety that occurs because of breathing difficulties.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Richland Memorial Hospital is covered by most insurance companies.  The Pulmonary Rehab team is happy to help determine whether or not the service is covered by a particular plan. Financial assistance may also be available in many cases.
